Toyota Boshoku Plans Tropical Forest Revitalization Project in Indonesia

Toyota Boshoku Corporation (Headquarters: Kariya-city, Aichi, Japan President: Shuhei Toyoda) and Toyota Boshoku group decided to operate Tropical Forest Revitalization Project in Indonesia as part of Global Social Contribution Activity Program.


This project is collaborated with Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation, Ministry of Forestry, Indonesia and a Japanese NGO foundation, Japan International Forestry Promotion and Cooperation Center (JIFPRO*). The aim of this project is the conservation of natural environment by afforestation and to create jobs and to support local people economically by contributing to Indonesia through reforestation activity.
* Association authorized by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for the purpose of promotion of international forestry cooperation.


The subsidiary company of Toyota Boshoku in Indonesia, P.T. Abadi Barindo Autotech (hereinafter referred to as "ABA") will support local activities.Through this project, degraded area of 150 hectares located at the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java Province will be rehabilitated in five years as Eco-Forest of Toyota Boshoku Corporation Group


We are planning to hold a reforestation commemorative ceremony, reforestation activity tour by volunteers from Toyota Boshoku Group and fund raise for Eco-Forest of Toyota Boshoku Corporation Group.


<The outline of the project>
1. Location: Argowulan Area in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java Province
2. Area: 30 ha / year (150ha / five years)
3. Tree species: Acacia decurrens, Casuarina junghuhniana and other indigenous species (1,660 seedlings / ha, 49,800 seedlings / year)
4. Contents: Administration office of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (Directorate General of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation, Ministry of Forestry) implements five years of reforestation. Many effects are expected by rehabilitation of the forest, such as restoration of degraded area, conservation of watershed protection land, job creation and economic support for local people. Toyota Boshoku will bear the cost for rehabilitation.
